Electronic pioneer brings seminal album 'Oxygene' to the Royal Albert Hall. To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of his seminal album, 'Oxygène', Jean Michel Jarre will perform the entire masterpiece at the Royal Albert Hall. With the help of three musicians and using the original iconic instruments including more than fifty legendary analogue synthesizers, this will be a spectacular event in a comparatively intimate setting. Jarre usually performs to millions with spectacular outdoor shows and at historic locations around the world, from the Acropolis to the Forbidden City. The Royal Albert Hall will truly be a unique experience. As Jarre says: 'I've composed Oxygène on extraordinary instruments, part of electronic music mythology as Stradivarius was for classical music or Fender Telecaster was for rock music. I wanted the public to discover those and I am so excited about performing for the fans in London'. In 1977 Jean Michel Jarre achieved worldwide fame with an album that seduced both music fans and critics across the globe. Oxygène was not only a timeless masterpiece, but its visionary cover image focussed attention on global environmental problems, long before the environment became a mainstream issue. Eric Alexander (tenor sax) Eric Alexander is one of the most exciting saxophone talents in New York today. Runner up to Joshua Redman in 1991 Thelonius Monk International Saxophone Competition, he made his first solo recording in 1992, and appeared as leader, sideman, producer & composer on probably 60-70 albums so far. Eric tours the world over regularly to capacity audiences. He has developed a distinctive voice within the illustrious bop-based tradition of players such as Monk, Dizzy, Sonny Stitt, Clifford Brown, Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean and Joe Henderson. He lives in New York & can be heard regularly at the legendary club, Smoke. Eric plays frequently with Mike LeDonne, David Hazeltine & the co-led group One For All with Jim Rotondi, Steve Davis, Joe Farnsworth, Peter Washington, and Dave Hazeltine. In 2004, Eric signed an exclusive contract with the New York-based independent jazz label, HighNote Records where he has amassed a considerable discography of critically-acclaimed recordings. His new CD (9th as leader), “In The Zone” on Jazzizit Records, is a mixture of standards and originals with reference to the great saxophonists: Parker, Rollins, Gordon, Shorter, Henderson & Coltrane. Dave has collaborated with the Jazzcotech Dancers and co-produced 2 CDs with their director, Perry Louis, for the London jazz dance scene: Fast Foot Shuffle (2002) and Push (2004). Messiaen Vingt regards sur l'enfant-Jésus The pianist Joanna MacGregor returns to Cadogan Hall for a special seasonal performance of one of the most spiritually uplifting of all piano cycles: Olivier Messiaen 's Vingt Regards, whose twenty movements meditate on the mystery of the baby Jesus and the wonders of the universe. Composed during the liberation of Paris in 1944, the work, says Joanna MacGregor, "is massive, almost unruly in its overflow of energy and colour, teeming with gorgeous sonorities and intellectually rigorous ideas. Each movement is quite literally a meditation on a theological aspect of his Roman Catholic beliefs, yet the contemplations are meticulously and dramatically paced: they can be serene, fierce, languid, rigidly doctrinal or even humorous." The concert will be performed by candlelight and without an interval, lasting for approximately 120 minutes. 'Close to faultless.' The Independent 'Joanna MacGregor's understanding of the music's ebb and flow is exemplary, beautifully rendered in a performance where each chord is given a different weight and direction.'
