Together with their parents, they are learning about tzedakah, charity, by identifying the needs within our community, fundraising, and providing for the funding of a UJA-Federation beneficiary agency serving those needs. Their ultimate goal is to raise $6,500 to support Basketball Buds, a new program of The Barry and Florence Friedberg Jewish Community Center.Basketball Buds will pair an 8- to 12-year-old developmentally disabled child with a teen volunteer. The teenagers, along with a program supervisor, will teach basketball skills to their buddies in preparation for games with others in the program.KLC is providing for the funding of Basketball Buds because its participants recognize that feeling different can be tough. They also want to provide the buddies with a safe learning environment, team-building skills, and the ability to play a great game.
