(September 2007 to June 2008) We are looking for tutors for our middle school's AVID cohorts (6-8). AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination. It's a program to help youth reach their potential of going to college by teaching them studying and organization skills. You don't need to know the subject matter. You don't need to have any experience. But when working with children, patience is required. You will be trained to tutor using AVID methodology. We need volunteer tutors during school hours, 8:30 - 2:45, (especially on Tuesday and Thursday). Since we have multiple classes, you can tutor at almost any hour of the school day. We need tutors who are willing and able to commit to at least 2 hours per week (1 hour on Tuesday and 1 hour on Thursday) for at least 1 semester. However, it is best if you can commit for the whole year since the students will get used to having you in the class.
