Mother Goose Story Times at the Evergreen Branch Library are designed for babies 6 months to 3 years of age, and feature nursery rhymes, fingerplays, simple stories and songs. To ensure a rewarding experience for all who attend story time, we encourage you and your child to arrive on time, listen attentively, and participate. Adults are asked to sit with their child until the child is comfortable. We encourage parents and children to check out books after the program. We hope story time and reading becomes an important part of your familys activities.

Jack Matsuokas Cartoons: Making the Best of Poston . In 2005, this exhibit will travel to Watsonville, California, Jacks home town. At the outbreak of World War II, Jack and his family were uprooted from their home in Watsonville, California, and incarcerated at Poston, Arizona from 1942 to 1945. Just a teenager at the time, Jack documented Japanese American incarcerees making the best of a woeful situation through his often humorous and always insightful cartoons. A companion project, Like Jack: Making the Best of It, links Jacks experiences 60 years ago with those of BGCSV youth today. Inspired by Jack, they told their own stories of challenges and coping strategies through art and words. Their refreshingly candid work is also on display as a temporary exhibit at JAMsj. This collaborative project was funded by the California Story Fund of California Council for the Humanities.

Enter the imagination of acclaimed cartoonist Ben Katchor in this delightfully quirky new musical. Set against an animated landscape, The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island weaves together the lives of eight unlikely individuals in their journey from a New York penthouse to a tropical island of exploited factory workers. Featuring a striking indie-rock score by composer Mark Mulcahy, Slug Bearers is a darkly funny, politically sharp, and wildly original music theatre event.
